DEVELOPMENT OF QUALITY CONTROL PARAMETERS FOR MRIDWIKADI LEHA

Abstract


ABSTRACT: Mridwikadi leha is an ayurvedic formulation official on ayurvedic formulary of India. It falls under the category of leha-paka group of Ayurvedic formulations.  It is a potent Ayurvedic medicine used in the treatment of cough. The main components Draksha (Vitis vinifera), Pippali (Piper longum), Sugar and Honey. The three batches MKLI, MKLII, MKLIII of leha were prepared in laboratory. All the crude drugs formulation was evaluated on basis of its quality and purity. According to WHO guidelines crude drugs subjected to quality control parameters morphological and physiochemical characters such as extractive value, ash value etc. Three batches of mridwikadi leha formulation were prepared in laboratory and those formulation subjected to evaluation for its organoleptic property, pH, ash values, LOD, phytochemical evaluation, safety analysis, sugar content, stability studies, UV spectroscopy  and antioxidant activity. HPLC is a selective, accurate and precise method has been developed for quantification of constituents as piperine chromatographic separation was carried out on C18 column and methanol: water in 69:31 ratios was used as mobile phase and absorbance was detected at 343 nm. Detector linearity was established in concentration range 10-50 µg/ml for gallic acid and 2-10 µg/ml for piperine. The correlation coefficient r2 was 0.992 for piperine and 0.989 for gallic acid.
