Abstract

The aim of the present investigation is to formulate and evaluate nanoparticles of Acyclovir in view, to increase contact period, and achieve sustained and targeted release, reduced side effects like peeling, dryness, irritation and burning and improved patient compliance. In present study, chitosan nanoparticles of Acyclovir were prepared and evaluated. Work had shown that nanoparticles may be an interesting carrier for Acyclovir in skin disease treatment. Nanoparticulate delivery system for topical administration of Acyclovir capable of providing controlled and localized release of the encapsulated drug in order to minimize adverse effects associated with its topical use. Acyclovir loaded chitosan nanoparticles were prepared and characterized for entrapment efficiency, particle size and stability. In-vitro drug release study of all the formulation was carried out and based on the result F6 batch chitosan nanoparticle of Acyclovir was identified as the best formulation among all the other formulation.
